Description

Rumex sanguineus, commonly known as Red Veined Dock, is an attractive marginal plant valued for its distinctive green leaves marked with deep red veins, creating a striking foliage display throughout the growing season. The colourful leaves add texture and contrast around pond edges and damp garden areas.

This hardy perennial grows well in moist soil or very shallow water, making it ideal for planting around pond margins, bog gardens, and damp borders. The upright foliage provides structure and visual interest even when not in flower.

During summer, slender stems may produce small clusters of greenish flowers which later turn reddish-brown, adding subtle seasonal detail to the plant.

Rumex sanguineus works particularly well in naturalistic planting schemes and wildlife ponds, where its bold foliage helps create a lush, natural look around the water’s edge.
