Juncus effusus, commonly known as Soft Rush, is a hardy marginal pond plant recognised for its upright cylindrical green stems that create strong vertical structure around pond edges and water features. The dense clumps of stems add height and texture while maintaining a clean, natural appearance throughout the growing season.
In summer, small brown flower clusters appear along the stems, adding subtle seasonal interest. Juncus effusus thrives in shallow water or damp soil, making it ideal for planting in pond margins, wildlife ponds, streams, and bog gardens.
This robust plant is particularly valuable in natural pond environments as it provides shelter for insects and amphibians while helping to stabilise pond edges with its strong root system.
