Description
Geum rivale, commonly known as Water Avens, is a charming marginal pond plant that produces delicate nodding flowers with soft purple-brown outer petals and warm yellow centres during late spring and early summer. The elegant blooms sit above attractive green foliage and bring subtle colour and interest to pond edges and damp garden areas.
This hardy perennial thrives in moist soil and shallow pond margins, making it ideal for planting around wildlife ponds, streams, and bog gardens. The flowers are highly attractive to bees and other pollinating insects, helping to support biodiversity around the pond.
Geum rivale has a natural, cottage garden appearance and works well alongside other marginal plants to create a soft, natural planting scheme around the water’s edge.
