Case Study - Joseph Chamberlain College

We were contracted to carry out pond maintenance at Joseph Chamberlain College, where the pond had been neglected for some time, resulting in poor water quality and severe algae blooms.

Originally intended as a central focal point for outdoor dining, studying and recreation, the pond provides students with a peaceful environment to focus and prepare for classes and exams.

Located in Birmingham city centre, the pond also serves as an essential habitat for a diverse range of wildlife. It's vital that modern construction and development include natural areas that support crucial insects, birds, amphibians and small mammals.

What services did we provide?

The work we carried out included:

  • Water testing and analysis
  • Manual pond cleaning, including removal of unwanted algae and vegetation
  • Chemical treatments to adjust water parameters and prevent algae growth
  • Weeding and dressing the pond edges with bark chippings and gravel
  • Adding pond plant fertilisers to encourage new growth in plants that had been choked and stunted by algae
  • Buffering KH and pH levels to prevent harmful acidity that can impact aquatic life

Following our maintenance, the pond is now thriving and maturing once again.
